They've been in Charlotte for a couple of years and that was the same
reaction here from an uncoordinated minority. At first, they were used pretty recklessly, but after City Council passed some local guidelines about where you could use them (street lanes vs. sidewalks), where they could be used (neighborhoods) and how fast you could go on them, things settled down. I'd guess the demographic using scooters here on city streets is pretty similar to the Tech campus. There will be some growing pains, some "I told you so"'s and some hair-afire reactions, maybe some broken bones and skinned knees, elbows and foreheads, but ultimately, if VT chooses to keep them, the users will get smart enough to self-regulate the scooters.
